Welcome aboard

To kick this blog off, I'd like to share some of my favorite dishes that I've eaten this year. Boyfriend and I make it a point to try a new restaurant at least once a month and it's actually been good for us. This is a great alternative to the usual movie + favorite restaurant combination. It gives you more things to talk about and puts an exciting element to the typical dinner date. But I'm not here to talk about relationships am I? On to the food.

American Dream by Omakase (190 for 10 pcs.) This has been our staple dish in Omakase since we first tasted it a few years ago. It is a deep fried maki with salmon, kani and cream cheese. Everything goes perfectly together and there is just the right amount of cheese to balance the taste. Experience has taught me that too much cream cheese isn't always good. Omakase's "secret sauce" is a great match for it and you can ask for second servings of the sauce for free.

Medium Combo by BonChon Chicken (365 for 3 drumsticks and 6 wings) BonChon's double fried chicken had us at first bite. Whether it be the soy-garlic or the hot & spicy, boyfriend and I can finish the medium combo (with an order of plain rice each) with much gusto. BonChon is a great place for couples looking for a nice place to rant about work/school or whatever it is that brings them stress because the chicken is so good that it can literally make you a happier person.

Cereal Prawns by Wee Nam Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice (375 for 4 pcs) Wee Nam Kee is famous for their hainanese chicken and their glorious chicken rice but what really captured our hearts is their Cereal Prawns. It is a bit expensive for couples on a budget (which is us, most of the time), but it is worth every centavo. The medium sized prawns are fresh and sweet and it goes well with the sweetness of the cereal. We even scraped off what remained of the cereal even though the prawns were long gone. Boyfriend and I dined here with my friends, which is ideal since their servings are really big and you can split the dishes between 4-5 persons.

Mango Hazelnut au Chocolat by La Creperie (125) A meal is never complete without dessert for me. One of the best we've tried so far is this delectable chocolate crepe with mangoes, hazelnut spread and sliced almonds topped with whipped cream and caramel syrup. The crepe is thin and crispy and it may look like it's too sweet but trust me, it's not. This, for me, is the best crepe I have ever tasted. Nothing even comes close. You can order this with a cup of tea after a heavy meal. They also serve Big Chill fruit shakes inside the store if you want to pair it with another sweet treat.

New York Chocolate Chip Brown Cookie Dough Cheesecake by Chelsea Market & Cafe (310/slice)
Another favorite dessert is this luscious and sinful cheesecake. The cheesecake itself is very rich and well, I am a sucker for anything with cookie dough. The crust, if I am not mistaken, is also made from cookie dough so every bite of this precious dessert is a winner. Chelsea is a great place to celebrate special events like anniversaries. The tables have a nice distance and this is ideal for people like me who easily gets distracted by noise from other tables. A couple might need to budget around 1500 for a complete meal in Chelsea but you will definitely get your money's worth because everything we've eaten here so far are a delight to the palate.

There you have it, 5 dishes that I keep craving for since the year started.

Cheers to my first blog post. I hope you enjoyed reading this and that you'll come back for more!
