Zuni Restaurant & Wine Bar: A celebration of sorts

Monday, June 27, 2011 § 1

It was Boyfriend's birthday and we decided to go to Chili's in Greenbelt 5 to celebrate. When we got there, we were informed that we are #20+ on the waitlist. Just perfect! We were already starving at that time so waiting wasn't an option. We walked around the mall to look for another place to eat. As expected, we were greeted by an array of expensive restaurants. Zuni's menu caught our eye because most of their meat dishes cost less than a thousand and in our book, that's a gold mine!

Baked Oysters Rockefeller(395/6 pcs.) We started off with an appetizer of oysters rockefeller. This is the only oyster dish that I eat and it's my favorite so I always have high expectations when ordering it. Their version is one of the best I've had! There is a generous amount of cheese and bacon and the oysters are fresh. A great way to start the meal!

Classic Confections: An obssession with dessert

Tuesday, June 21, 2011 § 2

There's nothing like a good cake (or three) to end a meal with. Classic Confections is one of our favorite places for dessert in the Greenbelt area. You can choose from their selection of cakes, cookies and biscuits, pair that with a cup of tea and you're all set for a nice after-dinner date. For the record, we ordered these cakes on 3 different visits. :)

Meline's Chocolate Cake (225 small/995 big) This is their take on the classic chocolate cake. The fudge icing is thick and very chocolatey and the cake itself is moist and has the perfect texture. A light caramel syrup is also drizzled on the side. The richness of the cake may be too much for some, but this is a definite must for hard core chocolate lovers.

SamboKojin: Not your ordinary yakiniku

Thursday, June 16, 2011 § 4

Last Monday, as the Dallas Mavericks won the NBA championship title, boyfriend and I decided to celebrate by going to a yakiniku buffet. It was a choice between Yakimix or SamboKojin. Since I was craving for more than just grilled meat, we decided to go with the latter. The good thing about SamboKojin is that you can actually call them for dinner reservations unlike some restaurants that only accomodate walk ins.

For 499 (lunch) or 599 (dinner and weekends), you not only get a wide array of meats but also a variety of Japanese and Korean dishes that can satisfy your every craving. For starters, you can choose from their set of Korean appetizers that include bean sprouts, marble potatoes, anchovies and of course, kimchi. If that's not your thing, you can walk a few steps to the sushi table where they have really good unagi sushi and a wide assortment of maki and sashimi. From the picture above, you can see that the salmon sashimi plate is empty. It's probably because their salmon is fresh and fatty. You can always ask for refills from the chef if it runs out. You can also order beef sukiyaki from the waiters.

Welcome aboard

Monday, June 13, 2011 § 2

To kick this blog off, I'd like to share some of my favorite dishes that I've eaten this year. Boyfriend and I make it a point to try a new restaurant at least once a month and it's actually been good for us. This is a great alternative to the usual movie + favorite restaurant combination. It gives you more things to talk about and puts an exciting element to the typical dinner date. But I'm not here to talk about relationships am I? On to the food.

American Dream by Omakase (190 for 10 pcs.) This has been our staple dish in Omakase since we first tasted it a few years ago. It is a deep fried maki with salmon, kani and cream cheese. Everything goes perfectly together and there is just the right amount of cheese to balance the taste. Experience has taught me that too much cream cheese isn't always good. Omakase's "secret sauce" is a great match for it and you can ask for second servings of the sauce for free.
