Wow. It's been 15 months since I last updated this blog. The Boyfriend has been constantly bugging me to start writing about food again, but I just haven't been feeling inspired lately. It's not that I haven't eaten food worth blogging. Heck, Boyfriend and I have been eating around the metro like crazy, hence my weight gain. I don't know. This isn't really a "feelings" blog so I don't wanna get into it.

But here I am. Blogging. And I am struggling because I don't know where and how to start. I thought of writing about our latest fine dining date (which was last Valentine's Day), but then it hit me. Favorites. Places we keep going back to, and food that made a real impact on our taste buds. So here goes. (Pardon the pictures, they're all from Instagram.)

Boyfriend and I have had a lot of delicious and enjoyable meals at Chef Dogan Turkish Grill and Restaurant. But of course, when we went there so I can finally blog about it, they decided to give us crappy service. All the menu items I was craving for weren't available. No kusbasi, no moutabal, no hummus. And best of all, they made us wait 40 minutes for our food. In the end, it didn't matter how good the food was because the bad service already ruined the experience for us.

The new Bonifacio High Street Central in the Fort has been creating a buzz with all their new restaurants, and soon to open boutiques. And given that my workplace is 10 mins away, Boyfriend and I decided to explore and tour our palates. Choosing a restaurant was hard. But because Boyfriend is currently addicted to Pad Thai (still hungover from our Dusit Thani experience), we decided to go to Mango Tree. The interiors, from the high ceilings, fancy artwork, beautifully crafted furniture, to the people dining in suits, are a little intimidating. Fortunately, the servers are very friendly and they make their customers feel at ease and right at home.

Great movies deserve sequels, the same goes for great dates. Since our Valentines date didn't go as smoothly as planned, we went on another food adventure, this time at Maitre Chocolatier. No gifts, no dressing up, just the two of us enjoying each other's company and some pretty kick ass food.

Valentines Day isn't something all couples celebrate, but we do. It may just be an excuse to go all fancy with flowers, chocolates and expensive restaurants for some, but it's more than that for us. Other than anniversaries, it's a day when we can be all lovey dovey in public without getting weird stares from people, a day when we look back and reflect on all the blessings that have been given to us. Yes, we can still do all the things I mentioned on ordinary days, but everything feels more special on Valentines.

Macarons aren't an easy treat to find in Manila. Admittedly, I haven't been eating them for too long. I first got a taste of these pretty French creation a few years ago from Bizu that left me wondering why they were that popular. Needless to say, I wasn't impressed. But one night in Midnight Mercato, I discovered Empire (I will write about this soon so I won't get into the details). Empire changed the way I feel about macarons. However, they don't have a shop yet, that's why they're really considered a rare treat for me. For two weeks I've been craving for macarons. Then a friend suggested this new place in Greenbelt called Sinfully.

It was one of those rare times when Boyfriend would pick me up from work and we still have no idea where we're heading. Since my office is in McKinley Hill, we decided to head to the Fort Strip and choose from the array of restaurants there. That's when we stumbled upon the gold mine that is Orale! Taqueria Mexicana.

One of the perks of being the girlfriend of a law student is that I get to watch him study all the time. Sarcastic, yes, but it does encourage me to do productive things since I don't have anything else to do. As I was updating my curriculum vitae, I got a little stressed and found myself thinking about cupcakes. Then an idea hit me. Why not start a series in my blog about my cravings? Nothing fancy, just a simple picture to share my suffering with other people. And so Insatiable Cravings was born.

There's nothing like a good cake (or three) to end a meal with. Classic Confections is one of our favorite places for dessert in the Greenbelt area. You can choose from their selection of cakes, cookies and biscuits, pair that with a cup of tea and you're all set for a nice after-dinner date. For the record, we ordered these cakes on 3 different visits. :)

Meline's Chocolate Cake (225 small/995 big) This is their take on the classic chocolate cake. The fudge icing is thick and very chocolatey and the cake itself is moist and has the perfect texture. A light caramel syrup is also drizzled on the side. The richness of the cake may be too much for some, but this is a definite must for hard core chocolate lovers.

To kick this blog off, I'd like to share some of my favorite dishes that I've eaten this year. Boyfriend and I make it a point to try a new restaurant at least once a month and it's actually been good for us. This is a great alternative to the usual movie + favorite restaurant combination. It gives you more things to talk about and puts an exciting element to the typical dinner date. But I'm not here to talk about relationships am I? On to the food.

American Dream by Omakase (190 for 10 pcs.) This has been our staple dish in Omakase since we first tasted it a few years ago. It is a deep fried maki with salmon, kani and cream cheese. Everything goes perfectly together and there is just the right amount of cheese to balance the taste. Experience has taught me that too much cream cheese isn't always good. Omakase's "secret sauce" is a great match for it and you can ask for second servings of the sauce for free.
